A lightweight field hat featuring one of the alpine’s smallest residents—the American pika.

Built from lightweight ripstop with a soft, unstructured five-panel fit, this is a hat made to actually go places. The crushable brim packs easily into a backpack or jacket pocket and springs back into shape when you need it. Moisture-wicking materials keep it comfortable through trail runs, long hikes, travel, and warm days outside. 

Finished with the FINCH pika patch on the front and small wildflower details along the sides, it carries a little piece of the high country wherever it goes.

BEHIND THE ILLUSTRATION

The American Pika

Small enough to disappear among the rocks, the American pika spends much of its life in alpine talus. But listen closely and you may hear one before you ever see it—a sharp call carrying across the rocks.

The illustration on this hat grew from studying one of the pika’s most remarkable behaviors: haying. Pikas don’t hibernate. Instead, during the short alpine growing season they make repeated trips into surrounding vegetation, gathering grasses, wildflowers, and other plants and caching them in haypiles that help sustain them through winter. Those stores can be used year after year, and pikas actively defend them.

The pika and wildflowers wrapping this hat bring that relationship together—a tiny alpine animal and the plants it spends its summer carefully gathering.
